1. The Confidential Convalescent
Roshana, Sooni, and Shamshad scour Darius' paper for mention of Aafrin's shooting, determined protect the Dalal patriarch from the frightening news about his son, because of his weak heart.
2. Identity Crisis
Policeman Mujinder Singh has found the shooter's identity card hidden inside the stitching of the prisoner's bag; his name is Chandru Mohan. Now they know the who, but not the why…
3. In a Bit of a Hole
Ralph doesn't claim to know his would-be assassin, yet in the prison cell with Mohan, he confides, "We're in a bit of a hole. What are we going to do?" Mohan strikes him brutally, repeatedly, until the guards intervene. What is their relationship?
4. Take Note
Sita presses a letter she's written to Aafrin into Sooni's hands, saying, "Gandhiji says we are one Bharat, so why can’t I love as I choose?" What has she written, and will Sooni actually deliver it, given her objections to their union? She reads the letter and makes as if ready to burn it.
5. Solace from Cynthia
Cynthia consoles a troubled Ralph over Mohan. "Let’s put a stop to this. I’ll get Kaiser onto it." Before long, Kaiser has had Chandru Mohan's signature forged onto a counterfeit document from the Indian National Congress, to connect the shooter to the independence movement.
6. Sibling Secrets
Alice and Ralph engage in subtle contest of power: When she won't reveal the true reason she came to India, he chastens her for having given Sarah a figurine. She retaliates by saying that she saw him in the bazaar, then leaves her anxious brother disarmed.
7. Lost and Found
After frantically searching the forest for the missing Adam, Leena finally finds the miserable, tortured boy stabbing his torso with a pin. Who is this strange child and why is he mutilating himself?
8. A Connection?
The journalist Khan, frustrated at pointlessly waiting all day to speak to Ralph, confronts Ronnie, vowing to write the truth. He posits his theory that Mohan and Ralph Whelan were acquainted, since Mohan is from Madras, where Ralph was Assistant Magistrate in the summer of 1923.
9. Cynthia's Snooping
Cynthia, determined that Ralph choose Madeleine as his bride, gives Ralph a copy of Madeleine's medical record "acquired" from the ship's doctor during her passage to India. It confirms her reproductive health and reveals that even she has a secret: she'd lied about her age.
10. Proof Positive?
In the crate of the deceased Mohan's personal effects, secretly hidden by Kaiser, Singh finds the forged document, a receipt of four annas for Chandru Mohan’s membership of the Indian National Congress. With the INC connection established, Ralph can claim the assassination attempt as political, and deflect from the personal story that Khan was pursuing.
13. A Bit of Sleuthing
Sarah writes to an acquaintance back home asking her to find out about Alice, "She is so secretive on the subject of her late husband. Wouldn’t it be fun to find out what she’s hiding?" What will Sarah find out, and what will she do with her information?
