Season 1: The Arrival of Dickens

Puppy Dickens in Grantchester Season 1

In the very first episode of Grantchester, perhaps one of the most important, certainly most adorable characters, made their grand entrance: Dickens! In a sweet gesture, Amanda surprises Sidney with the black Labrador Retriever puppy of all our dreams. Thanks to Mrs. M.’s signature catchphrase — “What the Dickens!” — the adorable little pup officially got his name and his place in the vicarage, and we all fell in love with him. (Just look at those puppy dog eyes!)

    Season 2: Amanda Leaves Guy

Morven Christie as Amanda and James Norton as Sidney kissing in Seeason 2 of Grantchester

The saga of star-crossed lovers Amanda and Sidney hit a pivotal moment in the Season 2 finale, when a pregnant Amanda decided to leave her husband, Guy Hopkins —  and ran into the arms of Sidney. Afraid, she told him, “I have nothing,” leading him to say the words we’d all been hoping to hear: “You have me. You’ve always had me.” (Can you say swoonworthy?) A future with them together finally seemed within reach…or was it?

    Season 3: Mrs. M. Becomes Mrs. C.

Nick Brimble and Tessa Peake-Jones as Jack and Mrs. C. at their wedding Grantchester Season 3

In the Season 3 finale, we finally got to see true love blossom when Mrs. M. and her beau Jack Chapman tied the knot (making her Mrs. C. now!). The intimate ceremony was filled with their closest loved ones, with Leonard performing the ceremony and Sidney walking Mrs. C. down the aisle to give her away like a proud son. At the reception later, Sidney toasts to the beaming couple with wise words we won’t soon forget: “To love is to live. And we must do so with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our might.” Hear, hear, Sidney!

    Season 4: Cappu-what?

Tom Brittney as Will Davenport making coffee Grantchester Season 4

After Sidney decided to move on from Grantchester and head for a new life in America, in came Will Davenport, the cool new vicar. Mrs. C. wasn’t thrilled with the change, however, so in an attempt to win her over, Will made her a cappuccino with his very own cappuccino maker, leading to a classic Mrs. C. line — “Cappu-what?!” Sure, she may not have been impressed in that moment, but luckily, it didn’t take too long for Will to worm his way into her heart (and ours!). They say caffeine is the way to a person’s heart, after all…

  5. 5.

Season 5: Geordie and Cathy -- A Strong Love

Kacey Ainsworth as Cathy and Robson Green as Geordie in Grantchester Season 5

When Cathy’s mother Diana first showed up in Season 5, she and Geordie couldn’t have predicted how difficult things would become. But Diana’s mental health became unmanageable and Geordie, hurting for Cathy and wanting to protect his wife’s own wellbeing, finally convinced her to find professional help for her mother and to no longer feel solely responsible for Diana. Through the entire ordeal, Geordie and Cathy’s deep love and support for each other shone through, reminding us all how good of a team they are. Like Geordie told Diana before she left for the facility: “If I know one thing about the women in your family, it’s that they are tough as diamonds.”

  6. 6.

    Season 6: Leonard's Legal Troubles

Al Weaver as Leonard Finch in Grantchester Season 6

In Season 6, the Grantchester gang and those around them were shocked when Leonard found himself in hot water after a misconstrued encounter with another man at a summer camp early in led to significant legal (and life) consequences for Leonard.

But it was Will’s impassioned testimony in court that tugged hardest on all our heartstrings, when he told the judge that to punish Leonard “wouldn’t be justice. And he wouldn’t be the only one who suffers. His friends, his family, his congregation, we would all be the less for it. Today, Leonard wasn’t worried for himself. He was worried for me. That’s the man he is. A man I consider my brother.”

  7. 7.

    Season 7: Mrs.C.'s Diagnosis

Nick Brimble, Tessa Peake-Jones, Al Weaver, and Oliver Dimsdale in Grantchester Season 7

Season 7 presented the biggest test of faith yet for our beloved Mrs.C., when a cancer diagnosis at the start of the season had her questioning not only her own mortality, but her faith in God. In the Season 7 finale, her found family all stood by her while she faced treatment. Despite her fears (and all of ours), the procedure was a complete success — and between that and the life-saving treatment Will received when he was near-fatally stabbed — her faith in God was back in full force and so was the overwhelming love for her family. The power of love, indeed!

  8. 8.

    Season 8: A Beautiful Family

Charlotte Ritchie and Tom Brittney as Bonnie and Will with sons Ernie and James in Grantchester Season 8

It was certainly a close call, but in the Season 8 finale, Will returned to Grantchester — and, more importantly, to his pregnant wife and stepson Ernie — just in the nick of time to be with Bonnie as she delivered their new baby, James George Davenport. At James’ christening, Will delivered these touching words to his son (and made all our eyes misty): “Life won’t always be easy, but look for the joy. Look for the love and you will find it. We have so much hope for you, James. So much love.” Cue the waterworks from all of us.

  9. 9.

Season 9: Geordie and Alphy's New Friendship

Geordie and Alphy share a pint in Grantchester Season 9

After Will and his family head out of Grantchester to start a new chapter at a new parish, Alphy Kottaram arrived in town ready to get to work. But unlike his predecessors, Alphy wasn’t too interested in helping solve crimes. Regardless, it didn’t take too long for him to find himself firmly in the world of mystery-solving at Geordie’s side. So, after Alphy’s first foray into fighting crime, Geordie meets him at the pub to share a drink and to hopefully come to not only a truce, but to forge a friendship. Alphy, of course, hit the nail on the head when he commented we were all thinking of in our own heads: “I hear you have a thing for vicars.”  It was then that a beautiful friendship began to blossom, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Season 10: Dinner, Murder and a Show

The cast of Grantchester Season 10 Episode 3

Well, that’s one way to woo a woman! Alphy prepared a romantic dinner, but of course, it doesn’t go quite as smoothly as Alphy had hoped. When a murder investigation lands on the vicarage’s doorstep, with involved parties piling into the home along with Alphy, Meg, Mrs. C., Geordie, and Leonard, the night evolves into dinner and a show when everyone gets involved in a reenactment of the crime.
