How You Can Help Protect Public Media

MASTERPIECE logo

[July 14, 2025] This year, the federal government has made several moves to defund public media. On Thursday, June 12, 2025, the House narrowly passed a rescissions package that would eliminate $1.1 billion in previously approved funds earmarked for public media. The Senate is expected to take up the proposal this week. A final package must be approved by both chambers by July 18 2025 — if not, the package expires and funding is restored.

The defunding of public media would be devastating for PBS, NPR, local public media stations, and for the millions of people across the country who rely on public media for informational and educational programming and resources  – all of which only costs the American taxpayer about $1.60 a year.

Changes to the bill are still possible. Now is the time to urge your Senator to remove the proposal targeting public media.  Please act today to support the public media stations and programs you love.

Ways to Take Action Now:

1. Contact your Senators. You can call your Senators through the Protect My Public Media website. Urge your Senators to remove the dangerous cuts to public media before the vote this week.

2. Donate to your public media station. Your donation to public media couldn’t come at a better time. Either donate for the first time, increase your donation, or become a sustaining member to show your support for the the public media station and shows you depend on.

3. Spread the word! Pass this info along to anyone else who might want to help.
