    What Can We Expect?

The all-new season picks up the action nine months after the end of Season 1, when some hearts were left broken, some were soaring, and the town’s future was not so clear. But time tends to heal most wounds. The town of Sanditon is growing in popularity as new faces arrive on the scene to join our beloved seaside community.

After a tearful departure at the end of Season 1, Charlotte Heywood finds her way back to the beautiful seaside resort. Despite her heartache, her life moves forward, and she catches the attention of not one, but two new suitors in town. And Charlotte has not arrived in town alone; she is accompanied by her spirited younger sister Alison, who is starry eyed and on the hunt for her own love story.

Meanwhile, Georgiana Lambe, on the cusp of turning 21, is as driven as ever to forge her own identity. Independent, outspoken, and rebellious as always, she finds herself once again up to mischief in the name of love. But will it be worth it?

Sanditon’s grand visionary Tom Parker is doing all that he can to rebuild the town after the events of last season. But between unforeseen issues and the secrets and lies of the dysfunctional Denhams, his task is no easy one — perhaps even an impossible one.

To top it all off, the Army arrives to make their new base in Sanditon, bringing new potential romances, friendships, and challenges for the residents we know and love.

    Who is Joining the Cast?

Sanditon Season 2 cast members (L to R) Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Rosie Graham, Tom Weston-Jones

What would the lively town be without a few fresh, new faces arriving? Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Industry) joins the cast as Alexander Colbourne, a mysterious newcomer in town with a complicated past, and is one suitor after the attention of Charlotte.

Also fighting for her affections is war hero Colonel Francis Lennox (Tom Weston-Jones, Grace), the self-assured, starkly opposite to Colbourne. But will Charlotte be ready for romance, again?

Rosie Graham (Outlander) joins the gang as Charlotte’s sister Alison, another young woman with big dreams of her own, who is setting out on her first adventure away from home. Catching her eye is the handsome and charming Captain William Carter, played by Maxin Ays (Still So Awkward), one of the new Army soldiers settling into town. And the new Army pals don’t end there: Frank Blake (Normal People) joins as Captain Declan Fraser, who’s a bit rough around the edges. Lastly, Alexander Vlahos (Versailles) will play the striking Charles Lockhart, an artist who has come to paint some of the more…well, shall we say, fashionable folk of the town.

Learn More About the Original Novel

Did you know that Sanditon was Jane Austen’s final, unfinished work before her untimely death on July 18, 1817 at the age of 41? Throughout her tragically short life, however, the literary maven penned a number of iconic works that are still popular today, including Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, and more. Learn all about the prolific  author’s major published works here!

And though Sanditon sadly was never completed by Austen, many have since tried their hand at continuing the story (including, of course, us). Curious to know more? We’ve compiled a list of novels that picked up where Austen left off!

Lastly, if you’re looking for answers to some of your burning questions about Austen’s life and career, we’ve got you covered on that front, too!
