What are the BAFTAs?
The BAFTAs roll out the red carpet every year to honor the best-of-the-best in global film and TV, especially in the UK. The star-studded BAFTA Television and Craft Awards will be given on May 11, 2025. And who better to lead the festivities than Alan Cumming, who’s sure to bring his signature charm and playful self to the ceremony.
Three BAFTA Nominations for Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light
Congratulations are in order for the cast and crew behind the critically acclaimed Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light. The series is nominated for Best TV Drama, Best Supporting Actor (Damian Lewis as Henry VIII), and Best Director, Fiction (Peter Kosminsky).
Legendary actor Damian Lewis and acclaimed director Peter Kosminsky are no strangers to the BAFTAs. In 2023, Damian Lewis starred in A Spy Among Friends, which earned a BAFTA nomination for Best Mini-Series. And Peter Kosminsky was given the BAFTA Alan Clarke Award for Outstanding Creative Contribution to Television in 1999 after winning multiple times in the Best Director category.
Six BAFTA Nominations for Mr Bates vs The Post Office
Mr Bates vs The Post Office, which helped focus attention on the real story of UK Subpostmasters who were wrongly prosecuted for theft and fraud, has six nominations (second-most nominations) including Best Limited Series and is also included in BAFTA’s Memorable TV Moment category.
Toby Jones earns his fifth BAFTA acting nomination for his deeply empathetic portrayal of tireless, real-life hero Alan Bates. Jones was the 2018 winner for Best Male Performance in a Comedy Program for Detectorists (after a nomination for same in 2016) and recognized with a Best Leading Actor nomination for both Marvellous (2015) and The Girl (2013).
Monica Dolan is nominated for her performance as Jo Hamilton, the kind-hearted Subpostmistress accused of crimes she didn’t commit. And in a fun twist, Dolan’s heart-racing scene—where she frantically calls a financial software helpline as her post office shortfall doubles before her eyes—is in the Memorable TV moment category.
