The Grantchester Cast on Their Hopes for Season 11

Filming for Grantchester Season 11 is now underway, marking the final chapter of this fan-favorite series. MASTERPIECE spoke with Grantchester stars Rishi Nair, Tessa Peake-Jones, Kacey Ainsworth, and Al Weaver about their hopes for their characters in the forthcoming season.

    Rishi Nair

“We’ve ended Season 10 with Alphy knocking on the door to his mother’s [home]. I hope that [moment] is a positive, good thing [for] him. I hope that if it is his mother behind the door, that she’s happy to see him and happy to be reunited. … I guess it could go two ways—it could be really nice for him, or it could all end in tears.”

    Al Weaver

“My hope is that [Leonard] will be a little happier. There’s this idea of him really missing the church, because he still believes in God and that way of life. It’s a calling for him and he misses that. … [In Season 11] he’s also thinking about family and having children, which [for] a gay man at that time wasn’t possible. But [perhaps] we’ll get to see a little bit of what Leonard could be like as a dad.”

Tessa: We’re hoping the shop [CeCe’s] will go from strength to strength. … I hope [our characters] get something out of it. I hope there are storylines within the dress shop that connect with the criminal side of things. And I think it would be quite nice to see Cathy and Mrs. C push together in this partnership that’s not always going to be ideal.

Kacey: Yeah, we’re both hoping that [the shop succeeds]. And we’re [looking forward to] … the development of Cathy and Mrs. C’s friendship. Do they come to blows [as] very different people with very different ideas? What do they want CeCe’s to be? … I’m hoping for a lot of fun, a lot of conflict, and maybe a little bit of competition between the two of them.
