Genuine Reactions to Season 2 Hijinks
In Episode 1, Judith, Becks and Suzie are tailing a suspect and need a speedy getaway. The ladies find a crafty and hilarious solution — borrowing a motorized scooter to race after their target. Samantha Bond reveals that the filming of that moment was just as precarious as it looks on-screen, with Bond and co-star Cara Horgan hanging on for dear life behind Jo Martin as the scooter rode over a speedbump. “[That] was exceptionally painful I am here to tell you. If you see Judith go, ‘Ow!’ that was genuine.”

River Scenes Terrified This Actor
The town of Marlow sits right along the Thames River, with stunning waterfront properties. Between late night swims and submerged bodies, plenty of scenes happen by the river. Of course, Jo Martin is such an excellent actress that you’d never be able to tell one crucial thing — she is terrified of the river. Co-star Samantha Bond told MASTERPIECE she helps keep Martin calm when they’re on the water, “To get to the location [of the pub, The Bounty], which is a real pub, you are put on a ferry to cross the river. That was a very little boat so there was a lot of holding hands and a lot of singing as we crossed, even though it only took about 30 seconds.”

The Guide to the Best Marlow Eateries
The town of Marlow is full of places to eat, and choosing one to go to can be daunting. Natalie Dew says that the ladies turn to Samantha Bond to organize their outings in town. Bond is the expert on all-things Marlow, especially when it comes to where to get a great meal. “That woman could do a Tripadvisor account on all the Marlow eateries. She can tell you what to eat. She can tell you who is going to serve you and she can literally order for you.”

Quality Time With Co-Stars is a Must
Did you know that the ladies of Marlow have a WhatsApp groupchat? Jo Martin confirms it is “still going strong,” and the group are always eager to make plans with one another. Despite the busy filming schedule this season, Cara Horgan told MASTERPIECE that the women do their best to make time for each other outside of packed workdays. “Jo, Sam and I managed to squeeze in a dinner on one of the nights.”

Bond’s Night Before Filming Routine
Judith Potts does some of her finest crime-solving during her evening river swims — and she isn’t the only one who finds the end of the day to be the best time for reflection. “Most of my work thinking is over dinner,” Samantha Bond told MASTERPIECE. “Actors don’t learn their lines the night before. I try to be about a week ahead. But the night before you will concentrate on what tomorrow brings with constant re-reading of the scripts so that you are not missing points.”

Favorite Filming Locations and Mysteries
Filming in beautiful locations throughout Marlow always feels like a vacation instead of work for the actors. “It was so picturesque looking out on the river with cows on the other side of it. We were filming right in the heat of summer… There was plenty of ice cream,” Natalie Dew told MASTERPIECE.
Dew also shared her favorite storyline this season. “I love episodes three and four, the second story, which is in a more domestic setting.” She was compelled by the eerie premise of the dead body in the cul-de-sac, with no connections to the residents or to Marlow. “But even though there is a smaller pool of people to choose from it’s very hard to know who the suspects are.” It proves to be a challenging case even for Tanika, the murder club, and the viewers to solve.
