    Help Track the Cicada "Swarmageddon"

    ByTim De ChantNOVA NextNOVA Next

With $80 and a bit of time, you can build a DIY soil temperature sensor and help Radiolab and others track the emergence of this year’s cicada brood, known somewhat banally—or menacingly, depending on how you feel about cicadas—as “Brood II.” This brood generally emerges from Connecticut in the north to Virginia or North Carolina in the south. It is the only one to surface this year.
