Where Will H7N9 Bird Flu Go Next?

    ByTim De ChantNOVA NextNOVA Next

    Declan Butler, reporting for Nature:

Scientists do not yet fully understand how the H7N9 avian influenza virus is spreading in China, or why the pattern of sporadic human cases looks like it does. But mapping the risks of known factors in the past geographical spread of avian flu viruses and human infections might provide some clues.

Butler has assembled a series of interactive maps that let you explore where H7N9 cases have been confirmed and where the virus may move next. (The maps require the Google Earth plugin to view.) Fortunately, the virus isn’t human to human transmissible yet. That means we’re safe , for now.
