What if cavities could be filled with lab-grown human enamel?
Researchers are hard at work on the very thing
(12, 13). Dental surgeons already attach dentures or crowns to
artificial roots known as dental implants, and they use tissue
engineering to treat gum disease. One such tissue-generating
product uses a special material saturated with healing drugs
and growth factors (naturally occurring substances that help
regulate the body's healing process) to help in the
regeneration of gum tissue.
