Gigantism and Dwarfism on Islands
Why was the hobbit (left skull) so small? Was its ancestor who first arrived on Flores an as-yet undiscovered species that was as tiny or even tinier than it? Or was that ancestor originally big like us (right skull) and then shrank over time like certain large mammals tend to do on islands? Like so much else about Homo floresiensis, the jury is still out.
