The Forest Service has developed new fireproof shelters for
use by trapped wildfire fighters that can withstand much
higher temperatures than previous models.
Wildland firefighters may soon have a new tool to add to
their arsenal -- a high-tech system that detects fires from
the air as small as eight inches across and provides
detailed information to fire managers on the ground.
