Wafer Bay
Named after a 17th-century surgeon who visited Cocos with the "gentleman
pirate" Edward Davis, this picturesque bay holds several pirate wrecks and, in
the surrounding cliffs, the so-called Devonshire Treasure—if it is still
there (see Legends and Lore. The long-suffering treasure-seeker August
Gissler encamped here for nearly 20 years in the last century, but today Wafer
Bay is home only to the small garrison of National Park rangers.
