Corinto port facility, Nicaragua

Nicaragua, 1982
This image, shot by an American SR-71 spy plane, shows Soviet merchant ships offloading military equipment at the Nicaraguan port of Corinto. The U.S. State Department Office of Public Diplomacy released this image of the Nicaraguan military buildup to generate support for the "contras" and to highlight the threat posed by the Soviet Union, Cuba, and Nicaragua of fomenting revolution throughout Central America.
