Crowd Watching
Do people in large groups tend to cooperate with each other? Or does each
person look out for her/his individual interests? Do people act differently in
different group situations? To gather evidence that might answer some of these
questions, observe the behavior of people in a busy place such as a
supermarket, a sports event, a concert, a shopping mall, an airport, a bus
station, a train station, or a subway station. Use this observation sheet to
record what you see. After you record your observations, answer the questions below
on a separate sheet of paper.

Questions
Why do people come to this location? What are they trying to do? If people need to wait for something, do they stand in line or move around in a crowd? How do people communicate with each other? In what ways do you see people helping each other? In what ways do you see people interfering with each other? In what ways do individual people seem to be acting differently from groups of people who are at the place together?
