Paper Warriors of Flight
Planes are often designed for specific purposes, such as flying short distances
to accurately hone in on a target, or carrying heavy loads of weapons over long
distances. You can try to design your own specialized aircraft using materials
in your classroom.
Challenge
Using only the materials available, build a paper airplane that
accomplishes your assigned objective. As you design and test different
features, record your results on the chart. All planes should be launched from
the same height. When you have found your optimal design, draw a picture of it
under Design Solution and explain why it works best.
Team 1 Objective
Design a plane that will fly in the most accurate flight path
possible to strike a 10 cm (3.94 in) target from a distance of at least three
meters.
Team 2 Objective
Design a plane that will remain in the air the longest
possible time.
