Did You See That?

There are many microorganisms living in, on, and around us. Where do some common microorganisms live, and why? Find out by looking at different samples of soil and water to see what you can find.

drawing of bacteria, paramecium, amoeba, volvox, cyclops, algae, euglena Part I
How many of the organisms illustrated on these pages can you find in the samples? Draw each organism that you find, note which sample you found it in, and explain what enables it to live there. For organisms you find that aren't pictured, draw what they look like and label what you think they may be.

Part II
Once you are done, choose an organism for further study. Draw the organism on a separate sheet of paper. Find out how it breathes, moves, reproduces, and defends itself; label your drawing to show which part of the organism is involved in doing these actions, and describe under your labels how each action is accomplished.
