Haunted Cry of a Long Gone Bird

Viewing Ideas

Before Watching

  1. During the program, Wheeler makes observations about the interdependence of humans and the various species of birds and fish along the North Atlantic seacoast. As students watch the pro-gram, have them keep track of the species that Wheeler comes in contact with and the relationship between these species and humans along the seacoast.

  2. This program draws attention to an environmental and economic crisis of international proportions. Have students look for the major human "players" in this crisis and observe how their actions and interactions (or lack thereof) have contributed to making existing problems even worse.

After Watching

  1. What was Wheeler's initial purpose in making the kayak voyage? How well did he accomplish his purpose? What factors made the voyage successful? What data might the students want to review in order to assess the impact of his voyage?
