Normal cyclones form when warm air rises, creating an area of low pressure. That low pressure region becomes the center of a gathering storm as air swirls inward. Characterized by an extreme pressure drop in a very short period of time, a bomb cyclone is like a regular cyclone on steroids. We don’t know yet if bomb cyclones will become more common as our climate changes, but climate experts suggest it’s possible.
