Ultracold Atoms
To explore the properties of a BEC, scientists at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) created a computer model that would visualize its behavior. (Above is a still frame from the animation.) This visualization offered evidence that BECs are superfluids that flow with little or no friction.
