DANIEL LIBESKIND

Extension to the Denver Art Museum (2000-2005, projected)
Libeskind envisioned his addition to the Denver Art Museum as a nexus connecting the original museum, designed by the Italian architect Gio Ponti, to the city and to the surrounding Colorado landscape. To be completed in 2005, this building of rising peaks will hold the museum's collection of modern and contemporary art and will attempt to echo the dramatic panorama of the Rocky Mountains. It will be constructed from a combination of local stone and modern materials, such as titanium, to make a connection between the city's 19th century pioneer roots and its 21st century role as a major cultural center.
