Step 1: Are You Ready for Some ROADSHOW?

Before you come to the event, don't forget your ticket and two items for appraisal.

Step 2: It's Show Time!

On the day of the event, please plan to arrive at the venue no earlier than 30 minutes before the entrance time on your ticket. Present your ticket to the volunteers at the entrance and your ROADSHOW adventure begins.

Step 3: Waiting in the Wings

You will enter the event and line up according to the time on your ticket. Please wear comfortable shoes as the venues have concrete floors. If you or your guest has difficulty standing for long periods of time, please bring a small, lightweight and portable chair or wheelchair.

While you wait to enter the television production area, you'll enjoy meeting fellow guests and seeing their special items.

Step 4: Show Us Your Items

After waiting in the appropriate line according to the time on your ticket, it is time to show your treasures to a generalist appraiser who will give you two appraisal category tickets for the items you've brought. Each category ticket will allow you to receive one appraisal. There are over 20 categories in all, everything from Folk Art to Furniture.

Step 5: Ready for Your Close-Up?

When you have your category tickets, a volunteer will escort you to the appropriate appraisal line to learn the history and value of your item. Some tables will be busier than others, so you may have to wait in line again before you meet one of our appraisers.

If an appraiser thinks your treasure would make an interesting TV segment, he or she will call for a producer to see if your items should be taped for the show. If selected, you'll be escorted to the Green Room, where you'll have make-up applied, sign a release, and wait for your turn to be on camera!

Step 6: Take a Bow

Once you've received your appraisals, and as you exit the production area, you may want to stop by the "Feedback Booth" for a chance to record some thoughts about your ANTIQUES ROADSHOW experience for possible inclusion in a future ROADSHOW episode.

ANTIQUES ROADSHOW sees over 5,000 people, and our 70 to 80 appraisers appraise over 10,000 items per event. When your appraisal is complete, please make your way to the exit so others can take their turn.

Why haven't you visited my town yet?

We are always looking for new venues and try to visit as many new locations as possible each year. Among other considerations, ANTIQUES ROADSHOW requires a minimum of 80,000 square feet of space, and many towns are unable to accommodate our event.

Please note, ANTIQUES ROADSHOW events are only held in June, July, and August each year.

Are tickets needed to attend ANTIQUES ROADSHOW?

You must have a ticket to attend an ANTIQUES ROADSHOW event. The 2016 ticket application deadline has passed. Tickets will not be available at the door.

How and when can I get tickets to an event?

The 2016 ticket application deadline has passed. Ticket recipients are selected from all eligible applicants by random drawing. Tickets will not be available at the door.

When does the ticket selection take place?

Ticket recipients will be selected from eligible applicants after April 18, 2016.

Will you contact me to tell me if I was or was not selected for tickets?

Beginning May 14, 2016, if you applied online, you will be able to use your email address to check your ticket status using the online Ticket Checker on our website.

This will be the only way to find out if you were selected to receive tickets. We will not send email notifications.

If you applied for tickets by postcard and are chosen to receive tickets, you will not receive a confirmation prior to receiving the tickets.

If I am selected to receive tickets, when will I receive them?

If you are selected to receive tickets, they will be mailed to you approximately three weeks before the event date.

Will the ticket envelope be from ANTIQUES ROADSHOW?

If you are selected for tickets, they will arrive in a plain white envelope to ensure security. Be careful not to throw them away.

Will tickets be available at the event?

No, tickets will not be available on the day of the event. If you do not have a ticket, you will not be admitted to the event.

I was selected to receive tickets, but I haven't received them. What should I do?

If you were selected, and your tickets have not arrived within one week of the event, please contact WGBH Member & Development Services at feedback@wgbh.org or 617-300-5400 (M-F, 9am - 5pm) for further instructions.

The tickets are free, so why did I see some for sale?

We offer all of our tickets to the public free of charge. We provide a limited number of tickets to the local public television stations, which they may use for fundraising purposes. Any other form of sale or resale of tickets offered through the ticket application process is prohibited by ANTIQUES ROADSHOW.

How and when do I submit furniture for the "ROADSHOW Furniture Roundup?"

The deadline for submitting furniture for the “ROADSHOW Furniture Roundup” has passed and we cannot accept any more submissions.

What happens if my furniture is chosen?

If your furniture is selected, ANTIQUES ROADSHOW will call or email you no later than 30 days before the event to arrange for our specialized furniture mover to transport your furniture to and from the event.

In order to move and appraise your furniture, the owner must attend the event. If your furniture is selected, you and one guest will automatically be allowed admission to the event.

What if my furniture piece is not chosen?

If you don't hear from us by telephone or email to arrange pick-up of your piece, then your furniture has not been selected. It may still be possible for you to bring it to the event yourself, if you are selected to receive tickets through the random drawing, but you must provide your own transportation for your item. Your item should fit through a standard door, and you must be able to carry or maneuver your item yourself at the event. At some venues, you may have to use an escalator or elevator.

What if my furniture piece is not chosen?

If you don't hear from us by telephone or email to arrange pick-up of your piece then your furniture has not been selected. It may still be possible for you to bring it to the event yourself, but you must obtain an event ticket, and you must provide your own transportation for your item. Your item should fit through a standard door, and you must be able to carry or maneuver your item yourself at the event. At some venues, you may have to use an escalator or elevator.

Can I submit furniture to the ROADSHOW Furniture Roundup if I live outside your 50-mile radius and can transport the piece(s) myself?

Unfortunately, we can only accept furniture submissions from within a 50-mile radius of our events. If you have a piece of furniture and live outside the 50-mile radius, you can still apply for tickets and if selected, you may choose to bring your piece of furniture. Please bear in mind that you must have a ticket and provide your own transportation for your item. Your item must be able to fit through a standard door, and you must be able to carry or maneuver your item yourself at the event. At some venues, you may have to use an escalator or elevator.

What time does the event begin?

The event begins at 8:00am. Ticket holders will be admitted every hour according to the time on your ticket, and items will be appraised all day. When applying for tickets, you may specify whether you prefer a morning, midday or afternoon entrance time, and if you are selected for tickets, we will try to accommodate your request. There are 10 entrance times:

Morning: 8:00am, 9:00am, 10:00am
Midday: 11:00am, 12:00pm, 1:00pm, 2:00pm
Afternoon: 3:00pm, 4:00pm, 5:00pm

What time will the event end?

The last entrance time of the day is 5:00pm. The event will end when all ticket holders in line have been given their appraisals.

Once I have my ticket, what time should I arrive?

Please arrive at the venue no earlier than 30 minutes before the time on your ticket.

Can I arrive earlier than the time on my ticket?

We do not allow entry into the appraisal area before the time on your ticket.

Can I arrive later than the time on my ticket?

Please plan to be at the event at the time specified on your ticket. However, if you miss your entrance time, you may join the end of the line. Doors to the event will close at 5:30pm.

Where can I get event directions and parking information?

Information for each event, including driving and parking directions, is available in mid-March on our On Tour section.

I have a ticket and want to bring a large and/or heavy item. Will anyone at the event help me carry or move it?

Sorry, we will not be able to assist you in carrying or moving large or heavy items. If your item is very heavy, we suggest bringing it on a cart, dolly, or anything with non-metal wheels. And remember, it must fit through a standard door, and you may need to use an escalator or elevator.

Will I have to wait in line?

Yes, you will have to stand and wait in line for a period of time. Please wear comfortable shoes as many of the venues have concrete floors.

Do you provide chairs for people while they wait?

There is a limited number of chairs at the event. You may sit on them, but they cannot be moved. If you or your guest has difficulty standing for long periods of time, please bring a small, lightweight and portable chair or wheelchair.

Can I avoid waiting in line?

With very few special exceptions, everyone must wait in line.

Will the event facility be wheelchair accessible?

Yes, all events are wheelchair accessible.

Does everyone who comes to the event receive an appraisal?

Yes, all ticket holders may bring two items for appraisal and will receive a free, verbal approximation of value for each item, regardless of whether or not they are selected by the producer to be recorded for television.

Can I observe your show without bringing an item for appraisal?

No, we cannot allow you to enter the event unless you have a ticket and have brought an item for an appraisal.

Can children attend the event?

Yes, children 12 and under do not need a ticket. All children under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. You must be at least 18 years old to apply for tickets.

Can I bring an antique sword or knife for appraisal?

Yes but please note that any swords, knives or sharp objects must be sheathed or securely wrapped to prevent injury.

Can I bring a firearm for appraisal?

Please note that possession and transport of firearms is subject to federal, state, and local laws. Even in cases where a firearm is deemed to be Antique under federal law (such as a firearm manufactured prior to 1898), it remains subject to the laws of the local jurisdiction. It is your responsibility to know, understand and comply with all appropriate laws and ordinances. We will appraise your firearm provided that our appraiser and local law enforcement are satisfied that this would be safe. Admission to the event with any firearm is solely at the discretion of the convention center or ANTIQUES ROADSHOW.

We will appraise unloaded antique firearms only. Please leave all ammunition at home, as you will not be allowed to bring it into the event. All firearms must be checked by security personnel before entering the event. Use of trigger locks is required where possible, on all firearms and we reserve the right to attach one to your firearm while it is at the appraisal event. Everyone entering the event is subject to search, for any reason. All local, state and federal laws apply.

Do you need to know what items I plan to bring to the event?

Each ticket holder can bring two items. ANTIQUES ROADSHOW does not prescreen these items.

Can you make recommendations about which items I should bring?

ANTIQUES ROADSHOW cannot recommend which items you should bring. We simply suggest that you choose items that you would like to learn more about.

Is there a cost to receive an appraisal at the event?

No, each ticket holder will receive free verbal appraisals of up to two items at the event.

Can I get a written appraisal?

ANTIQUES ROADSHOW only gives verbal approximations of value at our events and does not give written appraisals.

How many items can I bring?

Each ticket holder may bring two items to the event.

If I have a ticket, do I have to bring an item?

Each ticket holder must bring at least one item and no more than two items to the event.

Can I bring a collection of items?

A collection of very closely related items may be considered one item. If our appraisers determine that you have not brought a collection, you will be asked to select one item per appraisal. If our appraisers determine you have brought a collection, they may ask you to select one or two items from your collection as a guide for valuing the collection. You can also bring any supporting documents associated with an item (i.e., photographs, family notes, legal documents), as these may help our appraisers provide you with more information about your item.

What size items can I bring?

Your item(s) must fit through a standard door. You must also be able to transport the item(s) to and from the event, as well as throughout the event. In some venues, you may have to transport your item on an escalator or passenger elevator.

How many appraisers will you have at the event?

There will be about 70 appraisers, covering more than 24 different categories at each event.

Which appraisers will be at each event?

Our roster of appraisers is subject to change until the day of the event. A list of appraisers will be available at the event.

Will you have a specialist for the item(s) I bring?

We staff each event with about 70 appraisers who cover a wide variety of categories. Although occasionally our experts are stumped, most often they'll be able to answer your questions.

Are there any items you do not appraise?

We do not appraise vehicles, stamps, stock certificates, paper currency, coins, bicycles, tools, fossils, glass fire extinguishers, explosives or hazardous materials.

Do I have to own the item(s) I bring in order to get an appraisal?

You do not have to own the item(s) you bring in order to receive an appraisal from our experts. However, our producers can only consider items for recording if the owner(s) is present.

Do I have to own the item(s) I bring in order to be considered for recording?

Our producers can only consider items for recording if the owner(s) is present.

Can I contact a Roadshow appraiser prior to or after the event to see if they would be interested in my item(s)?

Yes, but if you contact a Roadshow appraiser regarding the item(s) you plan to bring to the event, then we may not consider the item(s) for taping, and WGBH Educational Foundation is not responsible for any business or interaction you have with an Antiques Roadshow appraiser prior or subsequent to the event.

May I bring a camera or tape recorder to the event?

You can use cameras or tape recorders in designated areas. However, photography, videotaping or recording is strictly prohibited in the appraisal area.

How long is the wait to see an appraiser?

Our experts see approximately 600 people per hour. Some categories are busier than others, and this varies from event to event. The best advice we can give is that you should come prepared to wait. This way, you can relax and enjoy yourself.

Can I sell my item at the show?

No, you may not buy or sell any item at ANTIQUES ROADSHOW appraisal events. Also, no appraiser may solicit your business at the event.

Can I talk to an appraiser at the event about buying or selling an item?

You may contact an appraiser at a later date if you wish, but not on the day of the event. There will be appraiser contact information available at the exit of each event. If you contact an Antiques Roadshow appraiser prior to the event about items are are bringing to the event, we may decide not to record any items you bring, and WGBH Educational Foundation is not responsible for any business or interaction you have with an Antiques Roadshow appraiser prior or subsequent to the event.

Can I get an appraisal online or from photos I mail to ANTIQUES ROADSHOW?

No, we only appraise items in person, at ANTIQUES ROADSHOW appraisal events. Our experts donate their time for each appraisal event and do not work at the ANTIQUES ROADSHOW production office. If you cannot attend one of our events, visit our online Appraiser Index to learn more about the experts who are featured on the show.

Can you recommend an appraiser for me?

We cannot recommend individual appraisers or companies. However, you may use our online Appraiser Index to find experts you've seen on the show.

Do you give out appraisers' telephone numbers and addresses?

At the event, you will receive a list of appraisers and may also pick up appraisers' business cards. For information online, visit our online Appraiser Index.

When will the shows you tape this summer be on TV?

Appraisals taped during the 2016 summer tour will be part of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW's 21st season, beginning in January 2017 on PBS.
