Students will learn about key financial concepts that contributed to the evolution of banks.  Those concepts will then be applied to modern banks and the services they provide.  As a culminating activity, students will be introduced to the concept of creditworthiness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LEARNING OBJECTIVES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:<br \/>\n\u2022\tDefine the terms \u201ccredit\u201d and \u201cinterest\u201d<br \/>\n\u2022\tExplain the evolution of money lending to banking<br \/>\n\u2022\tDetail the role of modern banks and the services they provide<br \/>\n\u2022\tAnalyze criteria banks use to determine creditworthiness<br \/>\n\u2022\tUnderstand the roots of the modern banking system<br \/>\n\u2022\tRecognize how personal choices and decisions affect one\u2019s creditworthiness<\/p>\n<p><strong>STANDARDS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.councilforeconed.org\/ea\/standards\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Standards for Economics<\/a><br \/>\nStandard 4: Role of Incentives<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\u2022\t   People respond predictably to positive and negative incentives.<\/p>\n<p>Standard 5: Gain from Trade<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\u2022 \tVoluntary exchange occurs only when all participating parties expect to gain. This is true for trade among individuals or organizations within a nation, and among individuals or organizations in different nations.<\/p>\n<p>Standard 10: Role of Economic Institutions<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\u2022\t        Institutions evolve in market economies to help individuals and groups accomplish their goals. Banks, labor unions, corporations, legal systems, and not-for-profit organizations are examples of important institutions.
