As the only country in the world<\/a> without slums, Singapore was praised by a United Nations report for its green policies.<\/p>\n

Singapore was the first country in the world to implement Electronic Road Pricing (ERP), an electronic toll collection system which aims to reduce traffic \u2014 and indeed, less than 30 percent of Singaporeans now own cars.<\/p>\n

Other cities have attempted similar measures to reduce congestion. This year, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg\u2019s plan to charge traffic fees in peak hours was struck down<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Despite Singapore\u2019s successes, as producers Mary Lockhart and Ara Ayer and correspondent Daljit Dhaliwal report, the automatic fees take a toll on Singapore\u2019s commuters. Below, read blogger perceptions of ERP and Singapore\u2019s infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Despite the costs, \u201cTh\u00eb bL\u00f6g acc\u00f6rd\u00ef\u0438g to j\u00eb\u0438z\u201d praises the speed of ERP<\/a> compared to stopping at tollbooths in other countries.<\/p>\n

Singaporean blogger \u201cGlynsen Wong\u201d refutes government justifications<\/a> of the ERP, describing his frustrating commute.<\/p>\n

The \u201cCruising to Cambodia\u201d blog visits Singapore and praises its subway system<\/a> as well as its roads and buildings.<\/p>\n

Another visitor, blogger \u201cValliappa Lakshmanan,\u201d claims that beneath the exterior beauty of Singapore\u2019s buildings, lackluster building codes prove that it is still a third-world country<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Finally, the \u201cLife in Dubai\u201d blog compares the infrastructure of Dubai and Singapore, praising and posting images of Singapore\u2019s restored buildings<\/a>.<\/p>\n
