Families Facing Hunger Find Refuge After Sandy

Mom, Christina Corretjer, and daughter, Samantha, are shopping at The Peoples Pantry in Toms River. The nonprofit offers emergency food to those in need.

“This is a great example for your kids,” Corretjer said. “It really is. It is a great example of people helping people.”

Although her husband works full time, the mother of two was laid of about a year and a half ago.

“The income just isn’t the same. I’m able to make rent, but other bills start to mount up after a little while. A place like this to come it helps fill the gaps,” Corretjer said.
