Magnolia Mother’s Trust is The Private Financial Assistance Program Helping Single Mothers in Mississippi
In 2021, more than 30% of American families headed by Black mothers were living below the poverty line. Magnolia Mother’s Trust is addressing this problem with a guaranteed income program that grants $1,000 a month to working Black moms in Jackson, Mississippi. The goal of this pilot program is to prove that a monthly stipend can go a long way toward lifting Black women and their children out of poverty. Zachary Green from PBS NewsHour Weekend reports on this story.
