Why Building Generational Wealth Starts with Healing Your Money Wounds

Welcome to the first episode of “Hay Dinero!” We’ll start at the foundation of our wealth journey: our money mindset. Join us as we dive deep into our relationship with money and discuss how financial generational trauma can weave its way into our lives.

Breaking down financial generational trauma
Haizel McIntyre, a social worker-turned-financial educator, speaks to us about how to prevent our personal finances from negatively affecting our mental health and how to face our money wounds. As the founder of Making Money Movers, she offers financial literacy education to those in underserved socioeconomic communities, starting as early as age five.

Sharing our money stories in safe spaces
Cindy Y. Rodriguez, the host of “Hay Dinero,” also invites her 26-year-old niece Andrea to have a vulnerable conversation about creating money goals while giving ourselves grace in the process — because it’s important to practice self-compassion on your wealth journey.

Setting financial goals
Allow yourself maximum freedom in setting down your goals — whether you input on your laptop or pick up pen and paper. What’s the big picture? What’s the “why” behind your goals? And what tiny goals can you set in place to help get you started on this journey?

Journal prompts
Our money wounds can impact our relationship with money. Think about financial patterns and beliefs in your family that have come down through generations. How have these shaped your approach to money now?

Finance educator Haizel McIntyre emphasizes the importance of preventing problems of personal finance from negatively affecting our well-being. How do you currently manage the emotional toll of financial challenges? What can you do to protect your mental health?

Take a moment to write down one financial goal you would like to work on. How can you approach it with self-compassion along the way? What small steps can you take?
