People who don’t know me think my life has been easy. They base this assumption on what they see as my achievements at this point in time. They have no idea how racism and discrimination impacted my life, my parent’s lives, and my children’s lives. Each generation has succeeded despite the negative intentions of people who see our color as a threat to their prosperity. It’s not official, but our family motto should be “We shall overcome.”
