Tilson Thomas’s many memorable appearances on GREAT PERFORMANCES include “Carnegie Hall Opening Night 1998,” “Keeping Score: Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony” (2004), “San Francisco Symphony at 100” (2012) and “The Thomashefskys” (2012), Tilson Thomas’s loving tribute to his grandparents Boris and Bessie Thomashefsky, who were pioneering stars of turn of the century Yiddish Theater.
In 2015 , Michael Tilson Thomas spoke with NYC-ARTS about his decades-long tenure with orchestras worldwide, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony. In addition to co-founding the New World Symphony in Miami as a training ground for young musicians, he was a champion of contemporary and American composers alongside classical masters.
