In 2019, the GREAT PERFORMANCES presentation of The Public’s Much Ado About Nothing marked the first time since 1973 that GP had captured a Free Shakespeare in the Park production. In summer 2021, GREAT PERFORMANCES returned to Shakespeare in the Park to record a new adaptation of Merry Wives, which premiered on PBS in May 2022. In summer 2022, GREAT PERFORMANCES recorded The Public’s new production of Richard III directed by Robert O’Hara (Slave Play), starring Danai Gurira as Shakespeare’s most indelible of villains, which debuted on PBS in 2023. And in summer 2023, GREAT PERFORMANCES recorded director Kenny Leon’s new staging of Hamlet, premiering on PBS in May 2024. With the newly renovated Delacorte Theater reopening in August 2025, GREAT PERFORMANCES returns for a new production of Twelfth Night, Shakespeare’s audience favorite following the romantic misadventures of shipwrecked twins, starring Peter Dinklage, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Junior Nyong’o, Lupita Nyong’o, Sandra Oh and Daphne Rubin-Vega, directed by Saheem Ali.
