Tad is the only member of Abraham Lincoln\u2019s family with whom Abraham Lincoln was formally photographed. In Image B, Mary Todd Lincoln, Abraham\u2019s wife, has been painted into the picture. Tad\u2019s given name is actually \u201cThomas.\u201d Tad is a nickname, short for the word \u201ctadpole.\u201d When Tad was young, Abraham thought that Tad\u2019s head looked very large on his small body, like that of a tadpole. Mary Todd Lincoln refused to be photographed with her husband, due in part to the fact that she was more than a foot shorter than him.
