He wound up traveling through Baltimore in disguise.  Another story tells that in 1864, Lincoln was riding unescorted to the Soldier\u2019s Home when he heard a gunshot.  His horse bolted and he lost his hat, but didn\u2019t think much of the incident.  Later the hat was found \u2013 with a fresh bullet hole!<\/p>\n<p>Many believe that Lincoln knew he was doomed, and that death was following him.
