Avocado consumption the United States has tripled, in recent seasons, to more than eight pounds per person per year. Unfortunately, the avocado industry is up against several challenges, from high water demand to deforestation to extortion and violence at the hands of Mexican cartels.
Today we explore the issues facing avocado growers, the exacerbating effect of climate change, and ways we might improve the production of this much-loved and valuable fruit.
