Environmental Art: Understand the Message Before Throwing Soup at It

During 2022 climate activists around the world engaged in a string of protests by throwing food at famous artworks, including Vincent van Gogh’s “Sunflowers,” Claude Monet’s “Grainstacks,” and Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa.”

This episode of “The Sweaty Penguin” explores what “environmental art” means and looks at some of the environmental impacts of art. The episode also focuses on deeper connections between the environment and art, which go beyond throwing mashed potatoes on famous paintings. Featuring special guest Geraldina Wise, Artist-in-Residence at the University of Houston’s Cullen College of Engineering.
