An RSS \u201cfeed\u201d is a small data file that presents a list of a Web site\u2019s most current stories, brief descriptions of those stories, and links to the full articles in a compact, easy to read format.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- end title --><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<p>RSS allows users to access and monitor the flow of information on many of their favorite Web sites all at the same time.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Getting Started Using RSS <\/strong><br \/>\nIf you have a myYahoo account or an iGoogle account, just click on the following buttons to load the feed directly into your browser.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fusion.google.com\/add?feedurl=http%3A\/\/www.pbs.org\/wnet\/wherewestand\/feed\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/buttons.googlesyndication.com\/fusion\/add.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Add to Google\" width=\"104\" height=\"17\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/add.my.yahoo.com\/content?.intl=us&amp;url=http%3A\/\/www.pbs.org\/wnet\/wherewestand\/feed\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/us.i1.yimg.com\/us.yimg.com\/i\/us\/my\/addtomyyahoo4.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Add to My Yahoo!\" width=\"91\" height=\"17\" align=\"middle\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another way to use RSS is to download and install a news reader on your computer. Many readers are available for free and can be easily downloaded over the Web. Following is a list of some of our favorite free readers:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rssowl.org\/download\" target=\"_new\">RSSOwl<\/a> (Mac\/Win\/Linux)<br \/>\nRSSOwl is a cross-platform reader that is powerful, easy to configure, and available in many several different languages. (Mac\/Win\/Linux)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.feedreader.com\/\" target=\"_new\">FeedReader<\/a> (Win)<br \/>\nFeedReader, a lightweight, \u201cbare-bones\u201d program, looks and operates like a basic e-mail reader client.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ranchero.com\/netnewswire\/\" target=\"_new\">NetNewsWire<\/a> (Mac OS X)<br \/>\nThe lite version of this aggregator for the Mac is easy to use, powerful, and free.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloglines.com\/\" target=\"_new\">Bloglines<\/a> (Web)<br \/>\nBloglines is a free Web-based service through which you can set up your own personal feed reader account. It\u2019s an easy way to start using RSS feeds, and doesn\u2019t require that you install any software on your machine.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have your news reader up and running, subscribing to RSS feeds is as easy as entering the URL of the feed file. If you know the URL of the feed you want to follow, copy and paste the URL into the application you\u2019re using. And voila, fresh information from your favorite Web sites is now at your fingertips<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Finding More Feeds <\/strong><br \/>\nSeveral Web sites are in the business of linking RSS users up with the huge array of feeds available online. A search of the terms \u201cRSS feeds\u201d in Google will yield many such sites, but here are two sites where hungry RSS users can find more feeds:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsisfree.com\/\" target=\"_new\">NewsIsFree<\/a><br \/>\nhttp:\/\/www.newsisfree.com\/<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.syndic8.com\/\" target=\"_new\">Syndic8.com<\/a><br \/>\nhttp:\/\/www.syndic8.com\/<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Terms and Conditions of Use <\/strong><br \/>\nThirteen\/WNET\u2019s feed is protected by U.S. and international copyright laws. All rights to RSS feeds originating from Thirteen\/WNET, including the content and technology included therein, are reserved to Thirteen\/WNET.
