Well-paid by local standards, Angolan soldiers often use sex with prostitutes or local girlfriends to relieve the tensions of military life. Studies of militaries around the world indicate that soldiers are two to five times more likely to develop sexually transmitted diseases than civilians, according to UNAIDS.
