It's Over There, Commissioner

Gerald Early talks about how most fans didn't care about the steroids during the 1998 home run chase

"This was pure entertainment, and to see people do this was great and I think the attitude of most people at the time is that it was great. I don't think people were that even upset by the idea that the even if he was taking steroids I don't think people were that upset. Then everyone was going around also saying, well, look, it doesn't matter. Even if he's taking steroids you still have to know how to hit a baseball or do this. It's not as though you, you know, you could take some guy off the street and just pump him up with steroids and he'd go out there and hit 70 home runs. So, I don't think it mattered much to most people."
