Hitting and Hitters

Tom Veducci, Ichiro, Joe Torre and Doug Glanville discuss hitting in baseball

"The toughest thing to do in sports is to hit a baseball. The ball gets on you so quickly. I remember my one at bat in an intra squad game. I got up to the plate and Chad Gaudin was throwing ninety-four miles an hour. And I convinced myself I'm going to swing at the first pitch. It's gonna be a fastball and I'm going to swing. He threw the ball. It was a fastball. And by the time the message got to my hands to move the bat the ball was in the catcher's glove. Basically the ball went quicker than my mind could work. And I said right there this really is as hard as I thought it was."
