Cezanne in Provence

.Image Gallery

It would be difficult to overestimate the impact of Paul Cezanne’s works on the histories of French, European and American art. Pablo Picasso described him as a “mother hovering over” and Henri Matisse called him a “father to us.” However, it wasn’t until the turn of the 20th century that the significance of the French painter’s works began to be recognized. Cézanne is now considered a leading figure in the post-impressionist movement and a profound influence on the course of modern art.

“To my mind one does not put oneself in place of the past, one only adds a new link.” Paul Cezanne, 1905

In this image gallery you will find a glimpse into the mastery of Cezanne with a look at ten of his most intimate reflections of his beloved Provence.  For a more in-depth look at the work of Cezanne, please visit the resource section of this site.
