Personal Biography on Dwight Sieggreen

These lesson plans were written by Dwight Sieggreen, a Master Science Teacher at Cooke Middle School in Northville, Michigan.

During his twenty-seven years of teaching, Mr. Sieggreen received the National Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching in 1992, the National Chemical Manufacturers Association, Catalyst Award in 1996 and was co-winner of the Michigan Science Teacher of the year in 1987.

Mr. Sieggreen participated in two Earthwatch Expeditions, Coral Communities of Fiji and Lost Cultures of Lac De Neuchatel in Switzerland. He also participated in two University Research Expeditions, Blue Monkeys of Kenya and Alaska Sea Birds. He visited Denali National Park for the first time in 1988 and again in 1991, 1992 and 1995. His University Research Expeditions project, Alaska Sea Birds, was on St. George Island in the Pribiloff Islands of Alaska. On the last visit to Alaska, Mr. Sieggreen traveled to the Brooks Range, 350 miles north of Fairbanks, Alaska. Mr. Sieggreen also studied the floura and fauna of the Amazon Basin in Peru in July of 1982, 1983 and 1984.

In July of 1995 and 1996, Mr. Sieggreen was facilliator of the NSTA Global Change Workshop held at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California. He served as an Executive Board member of the National Science Teachers Association and as Director of District X of NSTA. He was president of the Michigan Science Teachers Association, 1992-1994.

Mr. Sieggren has presented at numerous NSTA Area Conventions and National Conventions for the past several years and is a contributing author of a number of publications. He has been a consultant for the Louisiana Systemic Initiative, The Bronx Zoo, Georgia Pacific and the American Plastics Council.
