Ay dies heirless, the throne passes to Horemheb, Commander of the Army. He reinforces traditional values and strengthens the priesthood of Amen.

Horemheb dies with no heir. His army commander Ramesses, already in late middle age, becomes pharaoh.
1291 BC - Seti I becomes pharaoh
