Temple of the Aten

In the fifth year of his reign, Akhenaten decided to leave Karnak and build a new capital, which he named Akhetaten ("Horizon of the Sun"). The city was dominated by the great temple of the Aten, a temple open to the sun, surrounded by wide roads and open spaces.
