Call it draft or voluntary enlistment, if our cause is just and our role in the world as peace keepers is set, then we must have the military required to bring and maintain peace. Once we define our role and have a clear mission It think the military ranks will become adequate.

A dreaft with a population as high as ours is preposerous and our leader sons and daughters should be in a draft if one was proposed and no buy outs.

The draft should serve the purpose of increasing military manpower in order to fight a defensive war against a state or nation that has declared war on the US. The draftees should receive lifetime healthcare as well as a generous stock plan consisting of shares of Haliburton, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, Raytheon etc.

June 29,2004

I want every young citizen to be compelled to serve in the military but also be given the choice to pay money (say $1000) not to serve. Their service would make them a better citizen; Their buy-out would decrease the deficit, or fund social security.

Since I remember the draft during the Viet Nam war and all of the injustices associated with it, I am undecided. Yet, I do believe that if the draft were reinstated, opposition to the Iraq war would increase dramatically.

The military draft puts people into the military who don't want to be there. As a soldier I want people fighting next to me who want to serve their country. There are two types of people in this country, those who believe in the United states and are willing to put their lives on the line for it, and those who sit back and reap the benefits. It is those monday morning quarterbacks who are scared of Iraq. They are scared they might have to join the fight.

Thank you

Iraqi people have no control of the "hand over" and no power to control their future

June 29,2004

I agree that everyone has a duty to support their country but the draft was what motivated the resistence against the "just" war in Viet Nam. Too bad every one couldn't meet South Viet Namese as I did that moved south to avoid communism to realize this.

June 29,2004

Not only should the draft be reinstated, but military service should be mandatory for all young people, like in Israel. It should be everyone's responsibility to serve his country in the military.
