If you agreed with the statement, you may be having an IDNOT (I did not know that!) reaction right now. Don't feel bad though, this is one of many imaginary trends which many people believe to be true, but the data (see below) tells us otherwise.
What the Data Shows The average American work week shrunk from 53 hours in 1900 to 42 hours in 1999. Both mothers and fathers reported that they spent more time with their children in 1999 than mothers and fathers reported in 1924 or 1977.
