Of Steel and Rivets

The towers were constructed in sections. Each was built elsewhere and brought to the bridge site by rail, then out to the tower site by barge, then up into the air by crane or a gigantic elevator. The sections were fused together with 475,000 rivets per tower. When complete, each tower weighed 20,000 tons.
