Pushing Power Insull embarked on a permanent campaign to encourage mass consumption of electricity. He gave deals to all-night restaurants. He encouraged factory owners to put on overnight shifts. His salesmen pitched housewives electric applianceswashing machines, vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, fans, ovens, hot plates teapots, and heating pads. He sent trucks loaded with irons up and down city streets, offering free use of an iron for six months to anyone who signed up for services. With more electricity being consumed, Insull continued to cut rates and expand service.
