 Devon Ducharme

Williston Northampton School
Easthampton, Massachusetts

Devon Ducharme
Whether she's chasing down a puck on the ice, working backstage on a school theatrical production, or considering a decision on the student discipline committee, 17 year-old Devon Ducharme puts her best effort into everything she does. She somehow manages to balance studies, athletics and personal interests and still find time to have fun with her five siblings and large extended family.

This year Devon was named captain of both the hockey and water polo teams. She also works as stage manager on the school plays, and serves as both a student proctor and a member of the discipline committee. "I spend a lot of time on my studies, I'm taking some really challenging work--AP calculus, AP physics, English, economics and The Constitution. So, I really like being outside in my spare time and can usually be found biking, kayaking, or hiking," she says.

Her time on the Harriman Expedition Retraced was the longest spent away from home. Being away gave her a sense of independence and a chance to learn how to do things on her own. "I'm hoping to pursue something in the sciences at a college in Maine, hopefully Colby. I think the trip prepared me better for college, both personally and through some of the studies we did on board."
