David Mearns - leading the search

No one knows exactly where the wreck of the Mighty Hood lies on the sea bed, and no one knows why she sank so fast. The search, led by David Mearns, a world expert in exploring the deep ocean, aims to locate Hood using a unique sidescan sonar, then solve the mystery of how she was destroyed.

They will look at the wreck but will not touch it, except to leave a plaque commemorating the more than 1,400 men who died.

Follow the expedition on its quest to unlock the secret of how Britain's most feared warship was sunk.
