Meet an indigenous Bolivian leader fighting for labor rights; a young Israeli Arab karate champion with feminist ideas; three Egyptian women working for fair elections and a Kenyan leader sparking a nationwide environmental movement.

Lesson plans and video modules encourage students to learn about international struggles and take an active role in addressing local concerns. Lessons are directed toward high school and college students.

Shadya: An Israeli Arab’s Experience

This module introduces 17-year-old Shadya Zoabi, an Israeli Arab karate champion who is fiercely independent, despite growing up in a male-dominated Muslim culture. At the same time, Shadya is grappling with the challenges that Muslims face as citizens of Israel. Her internal conflicts intensify when she meets the Palestinian team at an international karate competition.
