FISHBOWL

preview
schedule
Lovey, a teenage Japanese American girl with a bad short perm and big '70s-style glasses sits at her classroom desk, the chalkboard behind her, looking at a glass bowl with two large goldfish, prominent at the front right of the frame.
When I grow up, I gonna be what I like be and nobody better say nothin’ about it… or I going kill um!
—Lovey Nariyoshi, Fishbowl
For 11-year-old Lovey, a rebellious, sensitive outsider, from a poor Hawaiian plantation town, life is more than a bad hair day—it’s a daily challenge.

Adapted from writer Lois-Ann Yamanaka’s Wild Meat and the Bully Burgers, FISHBOWL follows Lovey’s comical—and often painful—quest to be anyone but herself.
